A Life Well Lived
November
November
1963, a really, really cold winter; in Holland Park we had to collect water daily from standpipes in the street. Freezing cold from the journey home from work we then had to stand in line with whatever receptacle we had to fill with water for that nights cooking and the following mornings wash. Awful.
Despite the cold, John and I were married on the 20th. A few people gathered at Kensington Registry Office then back to Portland Road for a reception I had prepared the night before. Not a joyfully occasion as Ella and Edwin turned up to try to prevent the nuptials but were dissuaded by the Registrar.

Amelia Blythe Cannon
November 2004; my first Grandchild was born! She was a few weeks early., I had the call from Rebecca to say I should be on my bike to get to Essex to do my duty as birthing partner.
The sky was blue, the sun was shining as I arrived in Harlow from Bath, Rebecca was well into contractions but the going was tough and slow because of the baby’s spine to spine position, as midnight approached Rebecca gave it her all to birth the baby, discussions were had regarding alterative delivery methods, but a last try, involving grabbing Peter by the shoulders, standing up and pushing down, did the trick! Peter was pushing, I was pushing….. So, in the wee small hours of the 29th Amelia Blythe made her grand entry. A most welcome baby.
