A Life Well Lived
August

Hatton Garden, London
Augusts must have been a bit like a Parision August, nothing happened!
The first of the month was Suresh’s birthday so we always celebrated. “Our” restaurant was a little fish restaurant in Green Street, Bath. It was intimate, friendly with a great menu and we were always assured of a warm welcome. In summer we always requested the balcony table, for my winter birthday, a place by the open fire. I was very surprised when Suresh asked me one June day, to book a table for two “this week”. I phoned and did the deed, a bit surprised not to be offered a choice of table, but no matter, it was short notice …… On the evening in question,we arrived, greeted in the usual warm fashion and shown to our central seats. We ordered and Suresh immediately turned on his palm pilot, turned up the volume and sat opposite me grinning like a cat that had the cream. The AI boomed into action, attracting the attention of everyone. It gave a list of my many attributes (!?!?) then asked “Will you marry me?” The room was silent, the waiters frozen in their tracks, waiting for my answer … Once I squeeked my affirmative, the room went wild! Everybody was ‘in on it’, Suresh had called in personally during the week and told them of his plans; there were flowers for me and a bottle of champagne on ice, plus much shaking hands and clapping. A truly wonderful start to our married life,
