What’s the first major news story or political event you remember living through as a child?
At junior school I remember vague references about the Suez canal; it was closed, No idea and not really interested. John Yeadon told me the King had died and I was upset. Think it was fear of change. When I was 20 John Kennedy was assassinated the day after I was married, I had married John Boys on my day off and returned to work to hear of the brutal demise of the American President.
