Your story – Heather Scott
Have you met any famous people?
When I was about eleven years of age, it would have been my final year in the primary school, we were taken on a trip to the House of Commons in London where we were met by labour politician George Thomas, being a Welsh politician he had agreed to meet us and to be our guide around the different parts that we were allowed to see. He seemed a very amicable, friendly person with a sense of humour. He became more well known in later years when he became Speaker of the house of Commons. Although he was a labour MP he was made Viscount Tonypandy by Margaret Thatcher when he retired as a politician.
On the train on the way back from the trip we met a young woman with a guitar, she was in our carriage, who sang to us. Before she left the train, I can’t remember what station, she told us her name was Joan Baez. She was becoming a well known American folk and country singer.
