What family values were you brought up with?
The main thing that could be called a value that my parents taught us was to always tell the truth no matter the consequences and I have tried to abide by that most of my life and hopefully instilled it in my sons. My mother also instilled in us that you should show everyone respect whatever their background or how they treat you, not always easy to do. I tried to get my sons to follow this ideal but, I think, with little success. My father believed that you should always pay for your necessary household bills, rent, food, rates, electric, looking after your family, etc. first and then if there was anything left after that then you could spend it on fun things, this definately rubbed off on me, if you can’t afford it and don’t necessarily need it then you don’t buy it. Most of my adult life I have questioned whether I needed things or whether I could afford them. Certainly at the beginning of my marriage, I believe, if it hadn’t been for this need to be careful with money we would have been in difficulty because our RAF/WRAF wages were very small and Andrew did not seem to be that careful with money. I think my sons understand the need to pay their necessary bills first before everthing else.
