Your story – Heather Scott
Do you have childhood friends you are still in touch with today?
I left home, and Wales, when I was nineteen and only ever returned to visit my family. I lost touch with most of the friends I had about that time as our lives went in different directions and also most of the friends I had when growing up in the village also moved away from the village, although they still live in that area of Wales. But there are a few that I keep in touch with at Christmas, I haven’t seen them in years but we still send cards to each other and in one case letters.
One of my friends, Jayne, moved into the house next door to us in the village when she was very young and, although she was three years younger than me, we became friends and although we haven’t seen each other for about twenty years we still exchange Christmas cards. Similarly with another of my friends,Linda, from the Parish of Pendoylan, where we both lived, we exchange cards at Christmas, we became friends after I moved out of the village up to the cottage because our parents were friends.
The only other childhood friend that I am still in touch with is Jeanette, we meet when we both went to the Girls High School and became friends in the second year, we lived im different villages so didn’t see much of each other outside of school. We both left Wales when we left school, she went on to teacher training college and I joined the WRAF, she did move back to Wales after she got married for a several years because of her husbands job but when he retired left again so that they could live near their daughters. We have only met up a couple of times since we left school but still keep in touch annually with a Christmas card and letter.
